Safety Plan

Using a plan like this can help keep you (and your children safe). If you find
yourself in an unsafe situation and need to leave immediately, being
prepared can save your life.

Have these things ready for when you need to get away:

Important phone numbers (family, shelters, police)

An escape route that you practice with your children

A prearranged safe place to meet close by

Important documents, such as health cards, ID, marriage certificate

Extra money for phone calls, hotels or bus tickets

A bank account in your name

Does your partner, spouse or family member:

Make you feel uncomfortable or afraid?

Often put you down, humiliate you or make you feel worthless?

Try to stop you from seeing your friends or family members?

Make you feel afraid to disagree or say no to them?

Pressure or force you into unwanted sexual acts of any kind?

Scare or hurt you by being violent or hitting, pushing, breaking things?

Threaten to kill you, or themselves, if you try to leave?

If you answer
